About ND&A

The kernels of a successful proposal are within the past, present and future of your organization. The focus of Nauman, Desmond & Associates is to find these sources of inspiration and give them life. We have written proposals as web pages, as one-page case statements, and as 50-page federal documents. No matter what the medium, we will find the best voice to reach your potential donor and share your vision.

Every grant needs a margin of difference to succeed. ND&A has the experience to make that difference.

Mary Nauman, lead writer and founder
Mary’s successes include spearheading a grant proposal that attracted more than $30 million for Tulane University School of Engineering, the largest single-donor gift in the school’s history. In addition, Mary has edited numerous major research grants on behalf of Purdue University, several of which were for $15 million to $20 million. Other writing projects recently completed by Mary include: preparing speeches and letters for top Purdue administrators; writing a series of 8x11 glossy inserts for the Purdue School of Engineering; and preparing a start-up grant for a drop-in center for the developmentally disabled in Wilmington, Delaware.

Patrick Desmond, writer and editor
Patrick has folded his extensive experience in event planning, business management and communications into his role as writer and chief editor for ND&A. Patrick’s writing experience includes in-depth projects such as a business plan for the Tulane School of Social Work and policy manuals for state, county and state agencies, but his specialty is writing the polished texts necessary for speeches, newsletters and other external pieces.

Sharon Desmond, artistic director
A 1989 graduate of Philadelphia Institute of Art, Sharon has worked continuously as a professional graphic artist for nearly 16 years. She is adept at using numerous software design programs, such as: Adobe Illustrator, Quark Express, Photoshop, Freehand, Gerber Graphics Advantage Program, GSP Sprint and a Gerber Tracer. Her specialties are designing logos and supporting graphics for documents.

Associates

To ensure our clients never hear, “We’re too busy,” Nauman, Desmond & Associates works closely with several freelance writers who make themselves available at a moment’s notice to respond to our client’s needs.

Jason Singleton, Associate
With more than 10 years of experience working in the field of natural resources and education, Jason has written numerous grant proposals on behalf of non-profits. He developed and implemented the French Creek Outdoor School, which educates k-12 students about nature through restoration projects, aquatic insect studies, water quality monitoring, and numerous other programs. This and many other of his accomplishments required researching, writing and managing many successful grant proposals.

Terry Weathers, Associate

Terry Weathers is our “go-to guy” when it comes to complicated and technical drafts. Terry is a semi-retired mechanical engineer who has worked as a technical writer for several decades. He has compiled and edited technical documentation in fields ranging from supertanker mooring manuals to liquid rocket engine component design handbooks. Terry, a certified pilot, also works as a Certified Pilot Instructor and lives in a small redwood home in the mountains of northern California.
